智積院(ちしゃくいん)
三十三間堂のすぐ東隣にある寺院。長谷川等伯一門の障壁画を所蔵し、国宝として名高い芸術を間近で鑑賞できます。境内は静かで、観光客も比較的少なく、落ち着いて拝観できる穴場です。
Located just east of Sanjūsangen-dō, Chishakuin is home to the renowned wall paintings of the Hasegawa school, designated as National Treasures. The temple grounds are serene and far less crowded than other sites, making it an ideal spot to quietly appreciate both art and history.
養源院
血天井や俵屋宗達の「白象図」など、戦国時代と桃山文化の両面を伝える寺院。小規模ながらも歴史と芸術が凝縮された空間で、歴史好きの方には特におすすめです。
This small temple preserves striking cultural treasures, including the “Blood Ceiling” and Tawaraya Sōtatsu’s famous “White Elephant” painting. Though modest in scale, it offers a rare glimpse into both the turbulent Sengoku era and the refined Momoyama culture, making it a rewarding stop for history enthusiasts.
方広寺
かつては日本最大級の大仏殿があった場所。現在は鐘楼が残り、その巨大な鐘には「国家安康」「君臣豊楽」の銘文が刻まれています。豊臣と徳川の確執の象徴として知られ、歴史好きにとっては外せないスポットです。
Once home to one of Japan’s largest Great Buddha Halls, Hōkōji today is known for its massive temple bell. The bell’s inscription, which includes the phrases “State’s Peace and Prosperity” and “Joy for the People,” played a role in the conflict between the Toyotomi and Tokugawa clans. A must-see for those intrigued by samurai history.
渉成園(枳殻邸)
京都駅近くに広がる庭園で、東本願寺の飛地。池泉回遊式庭園の美しさは四季折々に異なる表情を見せ、混雑の少ない隠れた癒しの空間です。
